Ministry of Environmental Protection: Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei air quality improved in March
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, April 10 (reporter Gao Jing) the Ministry of Environmental Protection released the air quality situation in March this year and the first quarter on the 10th. The proportion of average good days in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region increased in March, but it was difficult to reverse the overall deterioration trend of regional air quality in the first quarter.
Liu Zhiquan, director of the environmental monitoring department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, introduced that in March, the average proportion of excellent days in 338 cities at prefecture level and above nationwide was, an increase of 11.8 percent age points year on year. PM2.5 concentration was 48 micrograms/cubic meter, down 17.2 percent year-on-year; PM10 concentration was 85 micrograms/cubic meter, down 25.4 percent year-on-year. The last 10 cities (from 74th to 65th) with relatively poor air quality in 74 cities are Shenyang, Tangshan, Zhengzhou, Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Urumqi, Xingtai, Xuzhou, jinan, Hengshui and Tianjin (the last two ranked side by side).
In terms of sub-regions, the proportion of average excellent days in March in 13 cities in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region was, an increase of 14.6 percent age points year on year. PM2.5 concentration was 63 micrograms/cubic meter, down 16% year-on-year; PM10 concentration was 110 micrograms/cubic meter, down year-on-year. In the first quarter of this year, the average number of excellent days in the region was, down 7.5 percent age points year-on-year. PM2.5 concentration increased by 26.7 percent year-on-year; PM10 concentration increased by 17.6 percent year-on-year.
The proportion of average excellent days in March in 25 cities in Yangtze River Delta region was 85.9%, an increase of 13.9 percent age points year on year. The proportion of average excellent days in 9 cities in pearl-delta region was 95% in March, an increase of 5.1 percent age points year-on-year, but the proportion of average excellent days in the first quarter decreased by 5.5 percent age points year-on-year.
According to the general Expert Group of the joint research on the prevention and control of air pollution in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the air quality in the first quarter of this year is not optimistic compared with the same period last year. The pollution in some regions and cities does not drop but rise. The main reasons are as follows: first, the meteorological conditions are generally unfavorable. Research shows that the melting of Arctic sea ice and other reasons have changed the cold air activity path in the northern region, reduced the intensity of cold air southward, and the regional temperature is obviously high, which is easy to form a wide range of static and stable, adverse meteorological conditions such as high humidity and temperature inversion. This led to many continuous heavy air pollution processes in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region from January to February. The second is the recovery of industrial production and demand. The emission intensity of industrial and motor vehicles in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and parts of Pearl River Delta remains high, which puts great pressure on the improvement of air quality.
